Community R-6 took advantage in its fall baseball season opener on Friday.
The Trojans fell behind New Bloomfield 2-0 after four innings on Friday at home but then scored a run when Nik Crider reached via an error in the fifth inning and Lane Carter scored via a passed ball later in the inning to tie the game. Carter scored from second base on an error in the seventh inning in Chris Ellersieck’s first game as head coach.
Carter reached base three times without a hit, including via hit by pitch in the seventh inning to follow Cooper Rohn’s leadoff single. A Crider single convinced Rohan to try and score but he was thrown out from the outfield. Carter took second base and then scored on a throwing error.
The Trojans walked five times and were hit by pitches three times to compensate for having three hits. Rohan allowed five hits and allowed two unearned runs on five hits and four walks in seven innings.
Community plays its first road game of the fall at Macon County with Bucklin (0-1) at 5 p.m. Thursday.
