Beamer scores 1,000th in 71-37 Lady Trojan loss at Cairo
Peyton Beamer got 1,000 from 3.
The Community R-6 senior scored her 1,000th career point on a deep 3-pointer in the first quarter of a 71-37 loss at Class 1 No. 7 Cairo (20-5, 8-1 CAC) on Feb. 17. Beamer finished with 21 points and four assists in the loss at Community’s Central Activities Conference and district rival.
Head coach Bob Curtis said Beamer joins “an elite sorority” of Lady Trojans who have scored 1,000 points.
“When she has it going, she has always been hard to guard as a super-shifty dribbler with a quick release,” Curtis said.
Jocelyn Curtis followed with 13 points and seven rebounds for Community (13-11, 6-4 CAC).
Chloe Brumley led Cairo with 28 points, and Mallori Hankins had 17 points to show once again Cairo has a lot of people to guard, Curtis said. Olivia Cross led the team with 19 points in the first meeting.
“Cairo has a lot of weapons so it is tough to cover them all,” Curtis said. “I think those two only took 12 shots back in January combined.”
Cairo is the No. 1 seed in the Class 1 District 10 tournament in Madison this week, and Community opened Monday as the No. 3 seed against No. 6 seed Madison (3-17), winning 62-24. Kat Meyer led with 17 points, Curtis had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Beamer finished with 12 points and 11 assists.
The Lady Trojans played at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday against Higbee (19-8).
