Van-Far 12 Clopton 10 in Silex
Van-Far is going to the district championship game.
The Indians haven't been able to say that since 2018, which was the last time the program won a district title, but earned that opportunity with a 12-10 victory over Eastern Missouri Conference foe Clopton on Friday in the Class 2 District 5 tournament in Silex.
Van-Far (8-13) hung on to a 12-0 lead despute a nine-run rally by Clopton (7-11) in the sixth inning. The Indians finished with 18 stolen bases and 11 hits, scoring in every inning from the second to the sixth inning.
Carson Huff went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs scored and a triple, Tyson Douglas was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases, and Gage Gibson finished 2-for-2 with six stolen bases and two RBI. Ronnie Stanich had three stolen bases.
Reece Culwell's 96 pitches covering 6 2/3 innings resulted in him allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk and striking out seven. Huff struggled in the sixth inning against Clopton as the Hawks tallied eight of their 12 hits in the frame.
Van-Far faces Sturgeon (9-10) at 5 p.m. Monday in Silex. The Bulldogs upset top seed Silex (11-6) 9-4 on Friday.

Missouri Military Academy's season came to an end on Friday in the Class 3 District 8 tournament in New Bloomfield.
MMA lost 18-0 in three innings to New Bloomfield (12-8), putting the Colonels' record at 0-10. The Colonels were no-hit by Brayden Carroll and struck out six times.
