It was a narrow 2-0 lead on Thursday until it escalated quickly to an ending.

Games today and tomorrow are in Clopton due to weather before it returns to host site Van-Far on Saturday.

Alexis Schafer pitched five innings for Community (20-11) with 10 strikeouts and two hits. She also had two RBIs, and both of them happened in the 12-batter fifth inning that ended on the 10th run due to Community being the home team.

Community plays the winner of Paris (17-9) and Sturgeon (9-13) at noon on Saturday in Van-Far.

Brown no-hits Moberly in Centralia 10-0 win

Jaylynn Brown was dominant again on Thursday.

This has especially been the case recently as Centralia posted its third straight shutout and seven in the last eight games with a 10-0 win in six innings against Moberly in the Class 3 District 4 tournament in Mexico. The No. 2 seed and state No. 3 Lady Panthers (26-6) were led by Brown's six innings of 16 strikeouts and one walk against Moberly (13-12), who was shut out by Centralia for the second time this year.

Centralia started pulling away with three runs in the second inning and three in the third inning. Ealynne Bostick had a RBI double in the second and RBI single in the third, and Blakely VanDyke had a two-RBI double in the third. Bostick finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Brooklyn Hardin had two RBIs, Raleigh Dutton was 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Brown hit a solo home run.

Centralia plays host and No. 3 seed Mexico (21-8) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Panthers beat Mexico 11-0 in six innings in Centralia in September for one of their 17 shutouts this year.

Schmidt tosses no-hitter, ties record in 8-0 North Callaway win over Slater

On Wednesday, Megan Schmidt and North Callaway were looking to take care of business.

They knew No. 1 seed and district host Harrisburg (29-8) was waiting in the Class 2 District 3 semifinals, but state No. 8 North Callaway beat Slater 8-0 behind seven no-hit innings pitched Megan Schmidt. She tied her own single-game strikeout record of 18 and walked one.

North Callaway (16-8) scored three runs in the  first inning against Slater (14-9) and added five combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Kendra Pennell led the Ladybirds by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one double, Mady Gordon was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one double, and Camrey Green went 2-for-3 with a double.

North Callaway has faced state No. 3 Harrisburg twice this season, losing 4-3 and 6-1. The Lady Bulldogs set a school record for wins this season and received a first-round bye. They were supposed to play today, but weather postponed the semifinal game to 2 p.m. Saturday.
