Community R-6, Van-Far at Class 1 District 4 Tournament at North Shelby in Shelbyville
Community R-6 won in Thursday's first round 18-7 over Canton (13-16) and picking up Jeff Angel's first playoff victory as a head coach. The Lady Trojans (12-21) face Class 1 No. 6 Silex (19-11) at 1:15 p.m. Saturday after having 17 hits and scoring 10 unearned runs off nine Canton errors. Maci Poindexter went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Chloe Johnson had four RBIs and one double, Jocelyn Curtis went 3-or-5 with three RBIs and one home run, and Peyton Schafer, Kaytlynn Arens and Ana McLeod each had two hits and two RBIs. Curtis pitched seven innings with 10 hits, four walks, three strikeouts and two earned runs.
Van-Far's season ended at 7-16 after a 9-5 loss to Clopton (10-10), which was the Lady Indians second loss to their Eastern Missouri Conference foe in a week. Clopton scored five runs in the sixth inning partly due to two errors and a dropped third strike to take a 9-4 lead. Ashlyn Marshall went 2-for-3 with one RBI, one triple and one double, Ashlynn Grammer finished 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Bryanna Stanich went 2-for-3. Ady Barnett pitched seven innings with 12 hits, eight strikeouts, three earned runs and three walks.
North Callaway in Class 2 District 2 Tournament in Elsberry
State No. 7 North Callaway (21-10) will face state No. 5 Montgomery County (25-5) at 7 p.m. Monday in the district semifinals after winning 8-1 over Valley Park (10-12) in Thursday's first round. Megan Schmidt surpassed 200 strikeouts this season with 16 strikeouts in seven innings in what was her sixth one-hitter of the year. Mady Gordon had a two-RBI triple in North Callaway's six-run fourth inning, which had three hits and six Valley Park errors.
North Callaway had one error and displayed good run prevention before its rematch with Eastern Missouri Conference foe Montgomery County. The Ladybirds lost 7-6 earlier this season to the Wildcats to force a three-way tie for the conference championship.
"My defense worked really well," McKee said. "We're definitely going to have our bats (against Montgomery)."

Against South Shelby (2-24), Paris had 13 hits while South Shelby committed six errors. Knightlee Mitten finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one double, Sophia Crusha went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, one triple and one double, Ava Crain was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one double, and Reese Sutton was 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Crain pitched seven innings with seven hits, three strikeouts and one walk.
Crain turned in another seven-inning performance against Clark County (10-15) with seven strikeouts, seven hits and one walk. The Lady Coyotes had 11 hits, and Katie Cummins led with four RBIs and one triple. Mitten went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one double, Emma Ashenfelter went 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Sylvee Graupman had one RBI and one double.
