As a way to keep student spirits up and to continue the practice of social distancing, teachers from the Mexico School district held a ’Paws-itive’ parade Wednesday.
Teachers drove through neighborhoods with signs of encouragement and messages about missing students, while students did the same from their home’s porches.
The district also is doing a virtual spirit week where they are asking for students to post pictures as a comment on district Facebook posts in an outfit for that day’s theme. Thursday’s theme was Pajama Day.
The first lunch distribution also happened Wednesday. Around 130 meals were served at six locations throughout Mexico. The district is serving meals on a reservation basis. Those who would like to reserve a meal can do so through an online survey available on the district’s Facebook page.
School pick-up locations are the Mexico Middle School back parking lot and the Mexico High School circle drive. Pick-ups are available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Other pick-up times and locations coordinated through the district and Mexico Area Family YMCA are: 11:30-11:50 a.m. at Oakcrest Mobile Home Park; 12:05-12:45 at the Garfield Housing Authority office; 11:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. at Skyline Village Mobile Home Park; and noon to 12:30 p.m. at Westgate Mobile Home Park.
Children under 18 must be present to receive a lunch and breakfast. Meals are provided at no cost. Those who pick-up from the mobile home parks or housing authority should only approach the YMCA van or a Mexico 59 vehicle. Other vehicles are not part of the distribution.
Those who need assistance can call a student’s school or the district’s central office at 573-581-3773. The number or places for pick-up locations may change. The district will post any changes.
