Van-Far’s Reading, MMA win MMA Invitational in Mexico

Through rain, wind and storms at one point, Van-Far’s Pacey Reading and Missouri Military Academy emerged victorious.

Reading won the Missouri Military Academy Invitational on Friday at Arthur Hills Golf Course in Mexico after shooting a 79, and the Indians were third as a team with a 360 behind MMA’s 344 and Monroe City’s 347. The day brought a full day of 18 holes but also wet and windy weather that was serious enough for two weather delays and to prevent many golfers from finishing the 18 holes.

Kaleb Baskett had the next best Van-Far score with an 84 to finish fifth and make the all-tournament team with Reading.

Two days prior, Van-Far won the Bulldog Golf Meet hosted by Louisiana with a team score of 187. Kasen Christian medaled at the meet with a score of 41.

Fernando Puebla shot an 83 to lead MMA and finish third overall. Patricio Sanchez followed with an 85 for sixth place, Logan Lockhart shot an 87 for eight place, Trey Rudolph had an 89 for 10th place and Cooper Johnston had a 90 for 11th place.

For Mexico, Mac Haag had the team’s best score of 86 for seventh place, and Karson Rowe shot a 92 for 10th. Jacob Stephens had a 93.

For Community R-6, the day was cut short for some due to the weather, but several were projected to finish in the top 30 during the day. Cooper Rohan and Kaiden Erdel tied for the team’s top score of 104, and Ezra Johnson finished with a 110.

Community R-6 played a match the previous day against Atlanta at Arthur Hills. Atlanta had the two medalists — JJ White and Barrett Pinkston — after each shot a 44. Rohan and Kyler Swaim each had the top score for the Trojans with a 59, Johnson shot a 62 and Kaiden Erdel and Houston Hogan each had a 63.

Centralia finishes second in quad in Hannibal

The Centralia boys came close to victory on Thursday in Hannibal.

The Panthers finished second in a quad at Norwoods Golf Course in Hannibal after shooting a 321 to sit five strokes behind winner Palmyra. The meet medalist was Palmyra’s Jonas James with a score of 74, and Carter Moss was a co-medalist with Palmyra’s Abram Getz with a score of 77.

Behind Moss, Lyle Marty had Centralia’s next best score of 79, Brady Schultz shot an 82, Cameron Barnes had an 83, Easton Dodge finished with an 85 and Braden Gaughan had an 89.

On the same day, Centralia hosted a tri meet against Kirksville and Russellville. The varsity Panthers and junior varsity Panthers finished second with a 192 behind winner Kirksville’s 158. Three golfers for Kirksville finished with top individual score of 38 while Centralia varsity’s best score was a 43 from Luke Sachs, and Centralia JV’s best score was a 46 from Colt Lawson.
