The Missouri Highway Patrol (MHP) is investigating an incident involving a high speed chase and shots fired at officers that ended with the suspect allegedly taking his own life.

Dominic K. Bosworth, 22, of Mexico, was pronounced dead in the early morning hours of Dec. 16, at University Hospital in Columbia after he led Audrain County deputies on a high speed chase through the county and into Mexico.

The incident began around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, when Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Casey’s in Laddonia about a juvenile being with a non-family member and that the family of the juvenile was concerned. Officers attempted to make contact with the described vehicle when they arrived at Casey’s and that’s when the pursuit began according to a report released by the department.

While deputies were in pursuit they became aware the adult was wanted on three felony warrants for failure to appear on charges of burglary, stealing firearms and driving while revoked.

Bosworth led officers down several gravel roads and at one point the vehicle stopped and the juvenile exited the vehicle. Deputies continued the pursuit and a MHP patrolman was able to get ahead of the pursuit and while setting up tire deflation devices he received fire from the vehicle. The patrolman was not struck but his vehicle was struck by bullets.

The pursuit continued all the way into Mexico and ended at the intersection of Boulevard and Breckenridge when the suspect's vehicle was disabled by several patrol vehicles. As officers approached the suspect’s vehicle they discovered the suspect had suffered a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Two 9mm pistols were recovered from the vehicle.
