Little Dixie Fire Protection District crews fought two blazes Tuesday, including one fire that destroyed a Mexico home.

Just before 6:10 p.m., Little Dixie firefighters were called to a home in the 11800 block of Audrain Road 933 for a report of a structure fire.

“Initial reports, called in by a neighbor, indicated there was a detached garage with smoke and flames visible,” the release stated. “The garage was reported to be next to a house. Fire crews arrived and found the garage structure fully engulfed in flames, which had also spread to the home. Upon entering the home, crews discovered a large fire in the attic of the home. It took fire crews over an hour to bring the flames under control in both structures.”

The home sustained extensive fire damage to the attic and roof, with smoke, heat and water damage throughout the remainder of the home, the release stated. The garage structure was destroyed by the flames. Damage to the structures is estimated at $300,000. Little Dixie crews responded with seven apparatuses and 16 personnel.

The Mexico Department of Public Safety provided mutual aid assistance to help bring the fire under control, the release stated.

Earlier, firefighters were called at 5:10 p.m. to provide mutual aid assistance to the North Callaway Fire Protection District for a reported natural cover fire on Callaway County Road 250, south of Auxvasse, according to the Little Dixie news release. North Callaway units were on-scene of a 40- to 50-acre fire and North Callaway personnel requested assistance from five neighboring fire departments for personnel and brush trucks to help control the wind-driven flames. Little Dixie responded with five personnel and one brush truck.
