After some early season ups and downs, the North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds have been playing well of late, picking up a 39-37 over Easter Missouri (EMO) Conference rival, Elsberry. Scoring the first eight points of the game, Elsberry was up 8-0, but the Lady Thunderbirds rattled off nine of their own to take the lead in the second quarter. North Callaway was up 15-14 at the half. They outscored Elsberry 14-13 in the third.
“This was a really good conference win for us,” said North Callaway coach Tim Turlington, “against a really good conference team.”
The win pulled the Lady T-Birds to an even 2-2 record in the EMO while Elsberry dropped to 3-2. It was also the third straight win for Callaway as they collected the consolation trophy in the recent Bowling Green Tournament. With the win, the Lady T-Birds are 7-11 overall.
Natalie Shyrock had 13 points to lead the Lady T-Birds; Ryelle Schmauch had 9 points, hitting 7-for-10 from the free-throw and adding 5 steals. Riley Blevins had 3 assists.
“We played well on both sides of the court,” Turlington said, “especially when it mattered.”
This week will be a busy one, as the girls will play four games.
