After a back-and-forth shootout at Hawthorne Heights on Friday night, Mexico (2-1) defeated Class 4 No. 4 and Class 4 District 5 opponent Odessa (2-1). Odessa has averaged 30 points per game eight straight years, but Mexico had the answers with its rushing attack led by quarterback Charlie Fisher. He ran for two touchdowns and returned an interception for a touchdown after Odessa recovered an onside kick in a tie game at 35. Marshall Ball ran for a touchdown to cap a drive that contained a 22-yard pass from Kyler Benne to Kaden Benne and then Drew DeMint knocked down Odessa's final pass as time expired.

Mexico plays at North Central Missouri Conference foe Marshall (2-0) at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Van-Far (2-1, 1-0 EMO) beat Eastern Missouri Conference and Class 1 District 2 foe Louisiana (1-2, 0-1 EMO) for its third straight win against the Bulldogs. The Indians had a 30-12 halftime lead partly because of touchdown runs by Ty Evans and Kasen Christian.

North Callaway 44 Montgomery County 16 in Montgomery City

North Callaway (3-0, 1-0 EMO) broke the five-year alternating pattern of wins between it and its Eastern Missouri Conference foe Montgomery County (1-2, 0-1 EMO) with its second straight victory over the Wildcats. The Thunderbirds rushed for 360 yards, including 133 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries from Jaiden Galbreath.

North Callaway plays at conference foe Bowling Green (1-2, 0-1 EMO) at 7 p.m. next Friday.
