Missouri Military Academy 6 Mexico 3 on Senior Night at MMA in Mexico
Missouri Military Academy (6-3) won the crosstown matchup with Class 2 District 4 foe Mexico (3-9) for the first two-game winning streak in rivalry for either team since MMA won 10 straight dating back to 2019. Seniors Fernando Puebla and Emilio Perez each had a hat trick and two assists, respectively. Senior goalie Luis Rey had six saves, and Eric Shellabarger had one assist.
Mexico trailed 2-1 at halftime, with Alex Rodriguez scoring off a free kick at the end of the first half. Brixton Goerne scored by crashing the goal, and Uriel Jarquin had Mexico's third goal. The Bulldogs had "a few bobbles and bad touches that led to quick goals" for MMA, according to Mexico head coach Bill Gleeson but thinks Mexico is starting to put everything together.
MMA head coach Rodrigo Padilla said the Colonels struggled to find their pace in the first half and were a little "unorganized." He said MMA returned to "playing our game" in the second half.
Mexico (0-5 NCMC) plays at North Central Missouri Conference foe and Class 2 No. 6 Marshall (10-2, 5-0 NCMC) at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Mexico lost 8-0 to Marshall at home earlier this season. MMA plays in the Moberly Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
