The Mexico boys are a 20-win once more.
The Class 4 No. 8 Bulldogs were tied at 17 at North Central Missouri Conference foe Marshall on Monday but scored at least 20 points in the final three quarters to win 82-63. Their three 20-win seasons in 11 years have happened within the past four seasons.
"This was not our best defensive gave despite turning Marshall over 13 times and scoring 16 times off those turnovers," head coach Darren Pappas said. "I think our legs were a little tired being the the third game in four days. However, we were able to move the basketball and find open guys on the offensive end."
Even though Marshall (8-13, 1-6 NCMC after loss next night to Fulton) was able to match Mexico's scoring in the paint with a slight 50-48 advantage, Pappas said Mexico (20-2, 7-0 NCMC) did really well scoring in transition with 28 points, and DJ Long acted on his role as a "floor general." Long finished with 27 points and was followed three more in double figures, including PJ Perkins with 16, Jaydon Eldridge with 14 and Kaden Benne with 12 on perfect shooting.
Pappas also complimented Holden Aulbur for the way he stepped into the starting lineup due to the injury to Donye Nunnelly.
The Bulldogs finished at 60 percent from the field -- 68 percent on 2-pointers and 38 percent on 3-pointers.
Mexico plays at School of the Osage (8-10) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
