The North Callaway seniors were vital to last Wednesday’s win as they have been the past four years.
The Ladybirds swept Eastern Missouri Conference foe Wright City (25-14, 25-12, 25-14) to earn a school-record 14th win and secure its first ever non-losing season. The stat sheet was topped by seniors in what was likely the class’ final match on North Callaway home court.
Bailey Hill led with eight kills followed by seven kills each from Natalie Shryock and Avis Endres. Lakyn Hartley had a team-high 15 assists, and Jaden Smithee followed with 13 assists. Carlie Clark had three digs.
North Callaway has achieved three straight double-digit seasons and have improved its winning percentage every season the seniors have been with the program.
“This senior class has continued to impress and advance the North Callaway volleyball program,” head coach Andrew Klein said. “The leadership and culture building this group has done will be paying dividends for years to come.”
North Callaway (14-13-2) faces Linn (20-6-2) at 5 p.m. tonight in the Class 2 District 6 tournament at New Bloomfield. The Ladybirds lost to Linn twice this season -- 2-0 in a tournament in 3-1 in a five-set match -- but more importantly lost in four sets the Lady Wildcats in last year's district tournament. A victory will secure North Callaway's first ever district win.
