Saturday’s game was not the first time the Mexico boys faced a Class 6 school.
The Bulldogs, who received votes in the most recent Class 4 state poll, lost 58-52 to Hazelwood Central in the Mid-Missouri Invitational presented by Ramey basketball at Harrisburg in their third game against a Class 6 school this season. Hazelwood Central outscored Mexico 32-24 in the second half.
Hazelwood Central (8-5) capitalized on 17 points off 14 Mexico turnovers to compensate for being outrebounded 37-29.
Jaydon Eldridge led Mexico (8-5) with 18 points, Kaden Benne finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and four 3-pointers, and PJ Perkins had seven points and seven rebounds. Holden Aulbur added nine rebounds.
Mexico (3-0 NCMC) plays North Central Missouri Conference foe Kirksville (9-3, 3-1 NCMC) on the road at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a rematch from this season’s 55-38 Mexico victory.
