The Mexico girls went further than they have in a while.
The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1997 after winning their first district championship since 2006. They had three players earn awards, including Claire Hudson, Scottie Smith and Grace Hudson.
Claire Hudson had a productive all-around senior season before she plays for Kirkwood Community College. Hudson was named all-North Central Missouri Conference player, an all-district selection in Class 4 District 8 and chosen as part of the KMZU Dream Team. She averaged 17 points per game, eight rebounds and 5.4 assists and had recorded triple-doubles in two postseason games.
Smith was in the starting lineup as a freshman and made an impact early. She was all-conference, all-district and a KMZU Dream Team member after averaging 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds.
Grace Hudson’s sophomore season came to an end in January after sustaining a knee injury. The point guard still had an all-conference and all-district season after averaging 12.8 points per game and three assists.
