Yet another game for the Mexico girls was a close one.
The Lady Bulldogs lost 59-52 last Wednesday at Southern Boone to bring their losing streak to three. All three of those losses were decided by seven points or less.
Head coach Makenzie Mudd said Mexico will need to “get over that hump” of losing close games as the Lady Bulldogs (8-9) lost seven of eight games decided by seven points or less following Southern Boone (6-11), with the lone exception being a 70-68 overtime victory at Macon.
“We started off strong in this game but had a slow, low-scoring second quarter,” Mudd said. “That hurt our momentum and we had to really work in the second half. We were back-and-forth most of the game but came up short at the end.”
Claire Hudson led Mexico with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, Alyssa Miller followed with 14 points and nine rebounds, and Kenley Jones had seven points.
Mexico (2-2 NCMC) could be playing another tight contest at 6 p.m. Wednesday at conference and district rival Fulton (6-12, 1-3 NCMC). The previous three meetings have been decided by five points or less with Fulton winning two of them.
