A Mexico man has been charged with eight child sex crimes, with some going back more than 15 years, according to court records and information from the Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney’s office. The crimes are alleged to have occurred against two victims.

Jimmy Graves, 74, is charged with three counts of child molestation in the first degree, three counts of first degree statutory sodomy and two counts of first degree statutory rape.

Judge Melissa Buckman Young held the defendant without bond, citing the safety of victims and the community, said Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Jacob Shellabarger, in an email. Graves’ next court date is 10 a.m. Aug. 21 for a bond review and status hearing, Shellabarger said.

One probable cause affidavit stated one of the victims was victimized multiple times at Graves’ home between the child’s fifth and eighth grade years. The events were alleged to have occurred between July 2008 and April 2011. Another probable cause affidavit said another child was victimized multiple times between February 2009 and June 2023, also at Graves’ home. The affidavit said during a 2015 incident, Graves threatened the victim with a gun.
