Mexico had contributions from players who were in valuable spots on the field.
Five Lady Bulldogs earned postseason awards, starting with all-North Central Missouri Conference, first team all-district and second team all-region nods for Maddy Feger and Hannah Loyd. Landri Teel, Keerstan Ewing and Aleigha Henderson each were named honorable mention all-conference and second team all-district to help Mexico finish 15-15 in the district semifinals in its first foray into Class 4.
Feger had a .364 batting average, 12 extra base hits, 17 RBI, 30 runs and 16 stolen bases in 95 at-bats.
“Maddy anchored the outfield as our center fielder,” head coach Hanna Branch said. “She was also one of our more consistent hitters and helped lead our offense. Maddy was aggressive and a force to reckoned with on the bases.”
Loyd owned a .298 average, 18 extra base hits, 25 RBI, 23 runs and eight stolen bases, and defensively, had 33.33 caught stealing percentage while catching 10 runners.
“Hannah was a true leader on our defense and brought great communication behind the plate,” Branch said. “She consistently took great at bats at the lead off spot in our line up. Her presence on the field kept runners on base hesitant.”
Ewing’s ERA as Mexico’s No. 1 pitcher was 2.30 and she had a 9-9 record, 41 strikeouts and 19 walks and in 115⅓ innings.
“Keerstan was a steady and stoic mentality on the mound,” Branch said. “She gave her all and stepped up for her team when injuries affected our pitching staff.”
Henderson made sure both Mexico’s pitchers this year were honored with a 3.75 ERA, 6-5 record and 84 strikeouts and 69 innings.
“Aleigha has great movement on the ball and throws a lot of batters off balance,” Branch said. “She pushed through a tough injury towards the end of the season and always worked hard for her team.”
Teel followed Loyd and Feger in the lineup and finished with a .330 average, seven extra base hits, 21 RBI and 21 runs in 97 at-bats.
“Landri is a great hustler and one of our more consistent hitters,” Branch said. “She also contributed to the team with solid defense at first base. Her positive attitude and enthusiasm make her a great teammate.”
