Mexico volleyball was building a foundation this season.
The season ended for the Lady Bulldogs on Oct. 21 in Winfield after a three-set loss (25-15, 25-17, 25-23) to Veritas Christian (12-15-1). Mexico’s record ends at 2-19.
“After a slow start, the team battled back and showed resilience in the final set, fighting for every point until the end,” head coach Tami Sells said. “I’m proud of how our players competed. They left everything on the court and showed grit and determination, consistent with the steady improvement we’ve seen throughout the season.”
Julia Goerne led with five kills, seven digs and three service aces, Charley Jackson had five kills, senior Claire Isgrig had three aces, senior Ava Herron had five digs, and Camy Blackburn had two blocks and two aces.
In her first year as a high school varsity head coach, Sells said she learned alongside her players and helped them build a foundation “rooted in teamwork, accountability, respect, and resilience.”
“As every team does, we faced challenges along the way, but each obstacle became an opportunity for growth,” Sells said. “I watched players progress into new roles, develop confidence and learn how to push beyond what they thought was possible. While wins and losses tell part of the story, what stands out most to me are the intangibles: the hustle, the encouragement from the bench, and the friendships and trust built throughout the season. Those are the moments that define a team and showcase valuable life skills.”
