Some mild damage was caused by a storm that rolled through the Audrain County area Sunday night.
There were no injuries from the weather event, according to a Mexico Department of Public Safety news release.
At 5:35 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for central Audrain County, the release stated, and this was because of radar showing a storm near Mexico, which had increased in strength and started rotating.
“The Mexico outdoor warning sirens were activated along with all other state and national warning systems,” the release stated. “Mexico Public Schools opened the storm shelter at Hawthorne Elementary and several people in that area moved to that location.”
As the storm moved through, some heavy rain and strong wind gusts occurred. A utility pole became insecure in the 1600 block of Lakeview Road and was leaning toward private property, the release stated. No residents lost power, and Ameren responded to make temporary repairs until the pole could be replaced. A large portion of a tree came down across the sidewalk and into the roadway of the 900 block of West Boulevard. Mexico’s streets department crews responded and cleared the sidewalk and street.
