Missouri Military Academy soccer had its best season ever.

The Colonels went further than any MMA team before by playing in the program’s first ever state championship game and finishing as the runner-up in a 17-5 season. That team success led to several individual accolades, including Fernando Puebla, Avin Hernandez, Eric Shellabarger and Alex McBride each being named to the Class 1 all-state team and all-region team for region 2 (districts 3-4) and Elliot Goodwin being selected as the Class 1 private school coach of the year.

Puebla led the way as a first team all-state player and the Class 1 offensive player of the year. The new addition to the Colonels this season had a team-high 37 goals along with seven assists.

First team all-stater Hernandez and second team all-stater Shellabarger were part of a stout MMA defense that averaged a nine-year program low of 1.4 goals per game and forced five shutouts along with goalkeeper Gihana Favour Nziza, who made 94 saves. Hernandez had three goals and four assists.

Second team all-stater McBride scored a goal in the state Final Four just like Puebla to bring his season total to 16. He also had nine assists.
