Missouri Military Academy waited a couple weeks again for its first varsity football game.
The Colonels again lost to Veritas Christian 55-0 on Friday at home.
Head coach Robert Rosenbaum said there were bright spots, but there is room for improvement for a team with not much football experience.
“The offensive and defensive lines have really got to start playing better,” Rosenbaum said. “The kids got to get more aggressive, and they got to work harder if they want any success. I tell them that’s the backbone of any football team.”
Rosenbaum said he hopes Brexton Castillo can be ready for 7 p.m. Friday at Class 1 No. 4 Russellville (3-0) because he had to be taken out because of a shoulder injury. Castillo does have prior football experience and is “a key cog” in MMA’s offense and defense.
Quarterback Callahan Evans returned from last year, and Rosenbaum said he looked good throwing and running the ball. Tight end Jamison Boocher has played and made nice catches and ran well. Meanwhile, running back Highness Gomez hasn’t played before and did a decent job.
Another positive is the roster is growing.
“We had 30 dressed out tonight,” Rosenbaum said. “We were all the way down to 23. A lot of them haven’t played yet for us. We had three or four come in the last week.
