Missouri Military Academy cadets through April 3 will not leave the school as the academy maintains a contained campus.
There are no known cases involving coronavirus, known as COVID-19 at the academy or in Mexico, according to an academy news release.
“We will remain vigilant in our efforts to support the health of our MMA community — cadets, faculty and staff — as well as to help protect the vulnerable in our local community and slow the spread of COVID-19 across the state and nation,” academy President Brig. Gen. Richard Geraci, retired, said.
The academy has monitored cadet travel during spring break. No cadet traveled to China, Italy or South Korea, which were identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as Level 3 Travel Health Notice. Coronavirus updates from the academy are available online.
Academy clinic staff will take cadet temperatures every day from Monday through March 30 to quickly identify and isolate any illness.
During the containment period the academy will not allow general leave or off-campus activities for cadets, which includes extracurricular or off-campus competitions.
Cadets will not attend off-campus church services. Online streaming will be offered when available.
Campus is closed to visitors non-essential to operations. No fast food deliveries are allowed to campus. Spring Family weekend and the Maroon and Gold Gala are canceled. All academy-related non-essential international and domestic travel are suspended.
In addition to these preventative measures, the academy has increased access to disenfectant wipes in barracks offices for cadet use, according to the release. Extra signs were added throughout barracks, classrooms and restrooms regarding proper hygiene and room disinfection.
Hand sanitizer is available in classrooms, common areas and the dining hall for use by cadets, faculty and staff. Cleaning has increased by custodial staff for surfaces frequently touched by cadets, such as doors, bathrooms, handrails, desks tables, and more.
