For the second straight year, the North Callaway boys closed their Bowling Green Tournament against conference foe Elsberry.
It was a North Callaway loss like last year as the Thunderbirds went down 66-63 following a 49-40 loss in last year’s fifth-place game. This year’s game started slow for North Callaway, trailing Elsberry 19-9 after the first quarter.
“We didn’t get it done on the defensive end,” head coach Matt Miller said.
Miller said he was pleased with the offense but believes the defense on Saturday won’t be a winning defense going forward. He added that Clayton Moore was great in the second half by scoring all 13 of his points in the half to go with his six rebounds.
Jake Blevins led North Callaway (7-10) with 14 points and a career-high seven assists, Jamarion Glover had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Dalton Brewer had 11 points and three 3-pointers. Glover had 16 points and nine rebounds while Brewer had 16 points and four 3-pointers in the Thunderbirds’ 59-52 victory over Louisiana (7-9) in the previous round.
Nolan Wilson and Moses Wieland each led Elsberry (7-10) with 17 points.
North Callaway (3-2 EMO) plays a rematch at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Elsberry (2-4 EMO).
