The North Callaway boys eventually got on a roll on Friday.
They were playing in an odd environment, as its Eastern Missouri Conference opener was moved from Silex to Fulton High School’s old gym, but defeated the Owls 70-48. North Callaway outscored Silex 25-4 in what head coach Matt Miller called the team’s “best quarter of the year.”
Miller also said the team’s depth was an advantage coming out of a 30-28 halftime lead and a first half with lots of foul trouble — two players with three fouls and two players with two fouls. Jake Blevins led the Thunderbirds (2-1) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Clayton Moore followed with 14 points, CJ Cunningham had 11 points, Jamarion Glover pulled down 10 rebounds, and Austin Brown finished with five assists.
Chase Vehige led Silex (1-1) with 17 points and three 3-pointers.
North Callaway plays in the Centralia Invitational first round at 7:30 p.m. tonight against Boonville (2-0).
