It was the second straight year North Callaway baseball was undefeated in the Eastern Missouri Conference, won a district championship and lost to the eventual state champion.
The Thunderbirds’ season ended in the Class 3 sectionals at home with a 4-0 loss to Fatima after losing last season in the quarterfinals to that year’s state champion, Duchesne. North Callaway had six on the all-conference team and five on the Class 3 District 7 team in its first 20-win season since 2012.
Carter Moore, Keaton Bell and Caleb Sheets were seniors who made the all-conference first team as a pitcher, shortstop and outfielder, respectively, and sophomore Coltyn O’Neal qualified for the first team as a utility player. Chance Green and Tucker Sheets were second team all-conference. The top vote-getter Moore, Bell and O’Neal were each first team all-district and Caleb Sheets and CJ Cunningham were second team all-district.
Moore, who was also selected to the NEMO Pressbox Stars Team, led North Callaway with a 1.05 ERA and .158 batting average against and had 60 strikeouts, 26 walks and seven earned runs in 46⅔ innings. At the plate, Moore had a .359 batting average, 1.027 OPS, 23 hits, 19 RBIs, 22 walks compared to 20 strikeouts, four doubles and two home runs. He had a .953 fielding percentage.
Bell finished the season as hitter with a .294 batting average, .473 on-base percentage 28 runs, 21 walks compared to 11 strikeouts, 20 hits, 17 stolen bases on 17 attempts and 13 RBIs. On the mound, Bell had a 1.75 ERA, .222 batting average against, 43 strikeouts, 17 walks and four complete games in 52 innings. He had a .946 fielding percentage.
Caleb Sheets finished with a .261 batting average, .372 on-base percentage, 21 runs, 20 RBIs, 18 hits, 14 walks compared to 14 strikeouts, 14 stolen bases and four doubles. He had a .962 fielding percentage.
Green had a .338 on-base percentage, 17 runs, 13 hits, 12 stolen bases and 10 RBIs. He had a .954 fielding percentage.
O’Neal had a .354 batting average, .930 OPS, 28 hits, 27 stolen bases on 26 attempts, 21 runs, 13 RBIs and six doubles.
Tucker Sheets had a .337 on-base percentage, 16 walks compared to 17 strikeouts, 15 RBIs, 14 runs, 10 hits and nine stolen bases on nine attempts. Sheets allowed a .256 batting average in 21 innings as a pitcher. He had a .907 fielding percentage.
Cunningham finished with a .329 batting average, .372 on-base percentage, 24 hits, 16 RBIs and six doubles as a hitter and owned a 0.00 ERA, .125 batting average against and 15 strikeouts in nine innings as a pitcher. He had an .889 fielding percentage.
