Grace Rasmussen ran on the biggest stage to end her high school cross country career.
The North Callaway senior qualified for her first state meet and finished 115th in the Class 3 girls 5K at Gans Creek in Columbia on Friday with a time of 22:57.80.
“I was so thrilled to see Grace advance to state this year, being her senior year,” head coach Brooke Fischer said. “We knew districts were going to be tough, but she came out in 17th place and a PR (21:53.30) on a hilly course (in Linn). Grace really stepped up into the leader position and was an excellent role model to her younger teammates. Her season was unbelievable.”
Rasmussen ran a personal-best time twice this season, Fischer said, which is the first time she has done that since freshman year. Fischer said Rasmussen has been dedicated to cross country since middle school.
“It was such a neat experience for her and inspired others on our team to make it their goal to get to state in upcoming years,” Fischer said. “Grace has grit and drive that helps her excel on the trails as well in her work ethic.”
