Paris baseball’s season ended with a 4-0 loss to Silex, but that was in the Class 2 District 5 championship game.
It was the Coyotes’ first district title game since 2019, and five kids earned awards for their efforts. Paris had three players make the Lewis and Clark Conference team and four make the all-district team as the team doubled its wins from last year with a 6-13 record.
Kaden Graupman was a second team all-conference player and all-district player while primarily playing third base, Luke Ensor was third team all-conference and all-district as a center fielder, Michael Rosson was a third team all-conference player while splitting time between center field, right field and second base, senior Gatlin Fountain was all-district as a shortstop, and Scotty McGee was all-district after picking up the win on the mound in a 9-8 semifinal victory against No. 1 seed Veritas Christian with five strikeouts, three hits and two walks in six innings.
Graupman had a .444 batting average, .573 on-base percentage, .571 slugging percentage and 1.145 OPS.
Ensor finished with a .327 batting average, .385 on-base percentage and .443 slugging percentage and had the win on the mound in an 11-8 first-round victory against Van-Far with four hits, three strikeouts and three walks. At the plate against Van-Far, Ensor went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and two doubles. He threw an 81-pitch complete game against Silex in the championship game with six hits, four strikeouts, one earned run and no walks.
Rosson had a .321 batting average and .449 on-base percentage.
In districts, Fountain scored three runs and had three RBIs and showcased “stellar play” at shortstop, according to head coach Darren Beaver.
