Paris struggled to win the last two years against Braymer.
The Coyotes lost both times to a 12-1 state semifinalist and came out on top this year with a 52-20 victory at home. Luke Ensor followed a six-touchdown performance for Paris last week with five touchdowns on 198 yards this week.
Head coach Cody Carney said Braymer (0-3) has a new head coach and required a different approach this time. He said the Coyotes (3-0) would focus more on running the ball but only had 32 rushing yards out of 270 total yards in this meeting.
“They have decent size up front,” Carney said. “We saw a couple things on film that we could take advantage of in the passing game. We got a few running backs banged up a little bit so we gave those guys a little break.”
Carney said Paris didn’t run that many offensive plays but compensated by having big plays to respond to an early 7-0 deficit. The Coyotes scored a touchdown and then returned an interception for a touchdown two plays later.
Ensor hit Logan Mitchell four times for 64 yards and had three touchdowns. Sawyer Clements caught and ran for a touchdown and finished with 106 total yards.
“He missed a few passes tonight, but he’s doing an excellent job,” Carney said.
Brad Skinner finished with 14 tackles for the second consecutive year against Braymer, who had 235 total yards, and had two tackles for loss. Payden Crain followed with 10 tackles and a forced fumble, fumble recovery and three pass defenses. Chase Kendrick had seven tackles and returned an interception for a 42-yard touchdown, Gabe Rowe had eight tackles and a sack, and Bryce Wade had seven tackles.
“A lot of guys were involved on defense,” Carney said. “We were on them a lot and had 76 tackles on the night.”
Paris plays at Northland Christian (1-2) at 7 p.m. today.
