Paris girls win Moberly XC Invitational

The Paris girls were the champions on Thursday in Moberly.

The Lady Coyotes had three runners medal as they scored a winning 59 points in the Moberly XC Invitational. 

Mairyn Kinnaman had the top finish for the girls as she ran to a fourth-place time of 21:49, Alexandria Tullius followed in eighth place with a 22:52 and Ava Crain was 11th with a 23:05. Kaylee Johnson was 20th with a 24:28.

For the boys, Landen Chapman medaled with a fourth-place time of 18:22. David Elzea was next with a 34th-place time of 20:14.

Ashenfelter shuts down Westran in Lady Coyotes 5-1 win

Kennedy Ashenfelter gave the Paris offense an opportunity to win on Thursday.

The Lady Coyotes defeated Lewis and Clark Conference foe Westran 5-1 after Ashenfelter pitched seven innings with four strikeouts, three hits, one walk and one unearned run. 

Maura Crusha went 2-for-3 with a RBI, Hope Sutherland had a RBI, Sophia Crusha went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, and Emma Ashenfelter finished 2-for-2 with a walk.

The Lady Coyotes (10-10, 4-3 L&C) scored two runs via ground balls in the fourth inning, and Maura Crusha had a RBI hit and Paris scored via a Westran (7-11, 1-6 L&C) error in the fifth inning.

Paris hosted conference opponent Harrisburg (5-14, 3-3 L&C) at 5 p.m. Monday.

Paris narrowly loses 2-1 to state-ranked Fayette

Games have been out of reach for Paris softball this season when the defense has faltered.

The Lady Coyotes looked sharp on Tuesday despite losing 2-1 at Lewis and Clark Conference foe and Class No. 7 Fayette. Each team recorded six hits, and Paris didn’t have any errors compared to Fayette’s one error.

Kennedy Ashenfelter pitched six innings with two strikeouts and two walks and allowed two runs in the fifth inning, when the Lady Falcons (16-4, 6-0 L&C) picked up a two-RBI double with two outs. Skylar Sunderland struck out 13 Lady Coyotes and didn’t walk anybody in seven innings.

Paris  scored its run when Emma Ashenfelter found an opportunity to cross the plate after stealing second and advancing to third base on a groundout. Emma and Kennedy each had a hit, and Reese Sutton went 2-for-3 with a triple.
