Mexico splits matches at home, at California

Before being swept at home on Thursday against conference foe Hannibal, Mexico was undefeated in the North Central Missouri Conference.

The Bulldogs won their third such match with a 25-15, 25-16 and 25-21 win at home against Marshall. They then lost 25-20, 20-25, 21-25 and 17-25 at California on Sept. 17.

The loss to Hannibal (10-0) was the first time Mexico was swept this season, but the victory against Marshall (1-8) was the first time the Bulldogs swept an opponent this season. In the win, Emily Moppin led with 11 kills followed by 10 from Jaclynn Cline, Claire Isgrig had all 25 of the team’s assists, Cline led with 12 digs followed by eight from Skyler Arnold. Moppin led with six of the team’s 20 service aces followed by five from Isgrig.

In the loss at California (6-7), Cline led with 13 kills followed by 10 from Moppin and six from Nevaeh Long, Isgrig led with 29 assists, Cline led with 18 digs and among the four Lady Bulldogs with at least 10 digs were Isgrig with 14, Moppin with 13, Ava Herron with 12, and Arnold with 10. Moppin led again with eight service aces, and Cline had five aces.

Against Hannibal, Cline led Mexico with five kills, Claire Isgrig had 10 assists and Cline, Isgrig and Skyler Arnold each had nine digs.

Mexico (5-3) defeated North Central Missouri Conference foe Fulton (7-7) in three sets (25-18, 25-16 and 25-21) on Monday for the Lady Bulldogs’ second victory over their North Central Missouri Conference rival. Mexico’s next match is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Bowling Green (5-8-1).
