Thursday's game started loud, and then Mexico quieted Kirksville.
The Bulldogs beat their North Central Missouri Conference rival 5-1 at home despite allowing a leadoff triple, which eventually scored, to start the game in the top of the first inning for Kirksville (3-12, 1-8 NCMC). Kaden Benne allowed two hits, walked two and struck out six in seven innings for Mexico (14-8, 4-3 NCMC). Drew DeMint hit a solo home run in the third inning for his second home run of the year. Kinser Groves finished 2-for-3 with one RBI, Brayden Arnold and Brady Fox were each 2-for-3, and Gatlin Denham had one RBI.
Mexico is scheduled to play at Palmyra (12-5) at 5 p.m. Friday.
