Community R-6 allowed four runs in the first inning, but they had plenty to answer that.
The Class 1 No. 10 Lady Trojans won their home finale with an 18-6 victory against Louisiana (1-13) in five innings to move to 18-11 with a few games left before districts start next Wednesday. They finished with 13 hits, and tied the game at 4 in the first inning before scoring 10 in the second inning. The night before, Community (18-11) avenged a 4-1 loss early this season by defeating Class 2 No. 6 Montgomery County 3-2 as Alexis Schafer pitched seven innings of no-hit ball.
"My main concern was we put a lot of energy into yesterday's game," head coach Jeff Angel said. "I was worried tonight about coming out flat. It seems like when teams have a big night the night before, they come out flat and get caught off guard. They were ready in the first inning. I was really proud of my the kids for the way they responded in the first inning instead of waiting a couple innings down the road."
Schafer pitched five innings against Louisiana with 10 strikeouts, nine hits and five earned runs and went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a double at the plate. Ana McLeod was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a double, Myla Carroll finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a double, and Macy Woodside was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double. Natali Sommer hit a two-RBI home run in the second inning for her first home run and Community's first home run this year.
"We've hit several off the fence, but after that one right there, she leads the team and we're chasing her now," Angel said. "Natali has always hit the ball pretty well early on in her junior high career. Last year, we threw her in the fire, and she worked through some kinks."
Community plays at Marion County (1-10) at 5 p.m. Thursday.
