Mexico had to face the best Class 3 District 6 volleyball had to offer on Thursday, and St. Francis Borgia looked the part.

The Lady Bulldogs were swept by No.  1 seed Borgia 25-9, 25-5, 25-8 in the district semifinals in Fulton, bringing their final record to 7-19. Before facing Borgia (23-13-1) for the first time, Mexico secured its first district win since 2020 when it swept Bowling Green on Tuesday. This opponent proved tougher to handle after Mexico tied the first set at 3.

"We let our emotions take control of the way we were responding instead of playing the game in the offense that we've been practicing all season," head coach Tami Sells said. "We let ourselves get overwhelmed in the moment and shut down in critical moments."

Sells said Borgia was the better team but would've liked to see more confidence from her team for more competitive sets. Mexico would put down a kill and put up a block occasionally, but Borgia's attack find the open spots in the middle.

"We weren't doing a lot of three contacts that ended with a swing," Sells said. "We were sending over free balls or tipping it over when we should've been swinging for a harder hit. We were playing it too safe at times instead of being fearless and aggressive."

The Lady Bulldogs finish this season with five more wins  than last season and will graduate seniors Charley Jackson, Camy Blackburn and Layla Belcher.
