Abby Bowen is heading to Day 2.

The Mexico senior advanced to the second day of the Class 1 girls wrestling state tournament after winning two straight matches following an opening loss on Day 1 on Wednesday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Bowen, who recorded her 100th career pin earlier this season, was pinned by Trinity Butler, of Festus, and then pinned Resel Rehobson, of Carl Junction, and Myla Petersen, of Lafayette County, to advance to third-round wrestlebacks for the first time in her career. Alexus Johns, in her fourth trip to state as a two-time state medalist, pinned Lexington's Lanie Schumacher in the first period before being pinned by Rockwood Summit's Kamauri Fowler in the third period. Johns exited before her next match via medical forfeit.

For Centralia, Avery Adams and Avery Griggs were eliminated in second-round wrestlebacks. After each opened with a loss, Adams (second state trip) defeated Lone Jack's Kathryn Jack 5-3 before losing 6-5 to Fort Zumwalt South's Carly Williams and Griggs (first state trip) beat Warsaw's Izabella Schierholz 7-5 before being pinned by Fort Zumwalt South's Ella Conley.

For North Callaway, Brooke Giboney in her third and last trip to state went 0-2 and Ella Baker went 0-2 in her first career trip. Giboney was pinned and lost via technical fall in the third period while Baker was pinned twice in the first period.
