It wasn't Mexico's night to cap a memorable season.

The No. 9 Bulldogs lost 13-3 to Orchard Farm (24-8, received state votes) in five innings in Thursday's Class 4 quarterfinal game in Mexico after finishing with nine unearned runs off four errors. It is the first time this season that Mexico (24-12) lost via run rule since a 13-0 loss to Hickman in the season opener.

Mexico took a 3-0 lead after the first inning thanks to four straight hits recorded, including back-to-back doubles, before allowing five runs in the second inning and seven runs in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs walked eight hitters between their three pitchers, breaking a three-game complete game streak. Colton Dickey went 2-for-3, Brady Fox had a RBI double in his last game, Zach Jahn had a RBI single, and Drew DeMint had a double and sliding catch in centerfield he turned into a double play at first base in his last game as a Bulldog.

Mexico hadn't played in the quarterfinals since 2014 and spent most of the season unranked until the May 18 rankings were released.

"We had a few more errors than normal and a few more mental miscues," head coach Daniel McCarty said. "We were walking too many guys today. Whoever's going to win depends on whoever makes the least mistakes."
