Posted

Van-Far wasn't able to recover from early mistakes in its two games Saturday to open the baseball season.

In New Bloomfield, the Indians lost 15-11 to Wheatland and 13-3 in six innings to New Bloomfield. Van-Far was tied with Wheatland at 8 through four innings but fell behind 15-8 and it finished the game with eight errors and eight walks by its pitching staff. Against New Bloomfield, Van-Far didn't score until the fifth inning and was down 9-0 by that point after striking out 12 times in four innings against Brayden Carroll.

Gibson Condie went 4-for-5 with five RBIs against Wheatland, Landon Flowers and Cooper Huff each had two RBIs and Gaven Gaston finished 3-for-5. Flowers was 2-for-3 against New Bloomfield, and Huff had a hit.

Van-Far plays at Calvary Lutheran at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
