Mexico's softball came to a brief stop Thursday because of a rain delay but didn't last long after.

The Lady Bulldogs scored seven runs in the sixth inning and six of them after the delay to beat Hannibal 12-0 in six innings. Mexico (8-3) was coming off two one-run losses at district opponents but took advantage after the first three Lady Bulldogs reached base in the sixth inning. Hannibal (2-3) had three of its four errors in the inning before Payton Sells hit a two-RBI double, and Sammie Gipson closed the game with a two-RBI home run. Sells finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles, Gipson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and her first home run of the year, and Payton Shaw and Keerstan Ewing each had two RBIs. Gipson pitched six innings with three hits and three strikeouts for her first career complete game shutout.

"We were stuck in a funk, making the same mistakes every at bat," head coach Hanna Jones said. "Playing a little small ball helped us get out of the funk to make something happen and move runners around."

Mexico plays another road game at a district foe when it faces Class 3 No. 2 Centralia (8-2) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
