Mexico softball won its seventh game in a row, but that wasn't the only signficance for seven on Monday night.
The Lady Bulldogs celebrated their seven seniors who have played all four years for head coach Hanna Jones, who has coached at Mexico for that long. Caycee Archer, Makayla Burnett, Keerstan Ewing, Isabelle Friedrich, Aleigha Henderson, Payton Sells and Payton Shaw were recognized after Mexico beat district foe Kirksville 9-6 for redemption for a 5-4 loss in Kirksville (10-8) earlier this season. After starting the season 0-3 against district opponents, the Lady Bulldogs (15-4) have won three straight against them.
Sells had the game-winning hit when Mexico took its first lead in the sixth inning with a three-RBI double that made it 8-6. Ewing pitched seven innings with 13 hits, four earned runs, one hit and no walks. Shaw finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a two-RBI home run in the first inning, and Alyssa Miller was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one double.
Mexico plays at Class 2 No. 8 Elsberry (17-5) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
