In a possible preview of the Class 1 District 4 championship game, Silex won this round.

No. 6 Community lost 8-4 to No. 8 Silex (11-2) in a game where the hits were even at seven apiece and the Lady Trojans (13-6) had seven errors compared to Silex's five. Alexis Schafer allowed six unearned runs with 12 strikeouts and three walks in seven innings while Silex all-state senior pitcher Rylan Harris allowed three earned runs with eight strikeouts in seven innings. Schafer was 2-for-4 at the plate in the No. 3 hole and Community's other heart of the order bats did well, including Myla Carroll at 2-for-3 with one RBI and a double and Maci Poindexter at 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Kylie Twellman was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including a three-RBI home run that put Silex ahead 4-2 in the fifth inning. Community responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on RBI hits by Carroll and Poindexter.

Head coach Jeff Angel said he liked how Community put the ball in play against an all-state pitcher and believes the Lady Trojans will play better in a potential rematch in districts hosted by Van-Far in October.

"We know there are going to be errors in softball," Angel said. "We just want to cut them down to a really low minimum. Tonight wasn't the case. I think the kids were really hyped up. I'm not making excuses, but in a game like this, this is a big game."

Community (5-1 CAC) tries to secure a Central Activities Conference title at 5 p.m. Thursday at home against conference and district foe Madison (6-8, 1-3 CAC).
