It was a slow start in Community R-6 softball's home opener, but it still resulted in a win.
Two days after finishing third in the Montgomery County tournament, the Lady Trojans defeated Central Activities Conference foe Glasgow 8-7 on a walk-off hit by pitch to Alexis Schafer, who struck out 11 and allowed three earned runs in seven innings pitched. Community (4-1), who allowed four unearned runs on three errors, fell behind 5-0 after two innings before answering back with a RBI single by Schafer and a two-RBI single by Emma Morgan to make it 5-4. After trailing 7-4, Community scored three runs in the fifth inning on a two-RBI single by Natali Sommer and a bunt RBI by Kaytlynn Arens.
Sommer and Morgan each finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Myla Carroll was 2-for-3.
Community plays at Hermann with New Haven at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
