Community R-6 has played important game after important game this week, and Thursday was no exception.
The Class 1 No. 6 Lady Trojans defeated Westran 13-5 at home after losing 5-3 to Westran (6-8) in Saturday's New Franklin tournament in the same they week they defeated Central Activities Conference foes Cairo and Slater. Community (11-2) finished with 11 hits after each team had three errors in the first inning. Kaytlynn Arens finished 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, Ana McLeod and Maci Poindexter each had two RBIs, Myla Carroll went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Alexis Schafer went 2-for-4 with three runs and pitched 5 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts, seven hits, two earned runs and one walk.
"At the tournament, we came out really flat," head coach Jeff Angel said. "We hit balls right at people, but they just made plays. We committed six errors. We got off to a slow start with no energy."
Community (4-0 CAC) plays at conference and district foe Sturgeon (3-3, 1-1) at 5 p.m. Friday, goes to the Cairo tournament on Saturday, and hosts conference foe New Franklin (4-8, 1-2 CAC) at 5 p.m. Monday.
