After a long two days in a field loaded with 38 schools, two girls were left standing on Saturday.
Two girls each advanced to state from Mexico, Centralia and North Callaway after finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes in the Class 1 District 2 tournament in Mexico. For Mexico, Alexus Johns finished second at 235 pounds and Abby Bowen was third at 140 to earn their fourth and third state appearances, respectively. For Centralia, Avery Adams and Avery Griggs each placed fourth at 100 and 110 for their respective second and first state appearances. For North Callaway, Brooke Giboney finished third at 105 and Ella Baker was fourth at 135 for their third and first state bids, respectively.
The Class 1 girls state tournament begins at 1 p.m. Feb. 25 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia and continues 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 26.
