The Prairie Pine Quilt Guild recently closed another successful Quilt Show held at the Audrain 4-H Center, Mexico, on April 1 and 2. They welcomed 123 attendees on Friday and 107 on Saturday for a total of 230.  Those in attendance were able to view over 100 quilted items, observe a “bed turning” where antique applique quilts were displayed, have their scissors and knives sharpened or schedule a quilt appraisal.  They were also able to shop at booths including County Line Quilts, “Gems and More” and “Quilter’s Treasurers.”  Lunch was provided on site by the Busy Beaver 4-H Club.

Attendees were given a ballot to choose their favorite quilts in three categories.  In the President’s Quilt section, past presidents displayed quilts which they had made with blocks stitched by guild members.  The winners of this section were: 1st place – Linda Carlson - 1988-1989 First President of Prairie Pine Quilt Guild, Officers and Members; 2nd Place – Lou Mongler - 2002 President’s Quilt; 3rd Place – Melanie Kriegel - President’s Quilt 1998-1999.   In the large quilt section, the winners were: 1st place – Lou Mongler – “Blooms, Berries and Birds”; 2nd place – Rita Lamb - “Sincerely Yours”; 3rd Place – Terry Pope – “Birds in the Meadow”.  In the small quilt section, the winners were: 1st Place– Ruth Miller - “Spiral Patriotic Table Runner”; 2nd Place – Ruth Miller – “Nativity”; 3rd Place Glee Hanson – “Pieced Background Experiment” tied with Phyllis Sanders – “Sunbonnet Seasons”.

Glee Hanson, president of the guild and Ruth Miller, guild member and chairman of the event, would like to extend a large thank you to all who attended, exhibited quilts and/or helped in any way.

“Your participation was greatly appreciated,” they said.

The next guild meeting will be on May 2, at 6:30 at the First Presbyterian Church, 400 Lakeview Road, Mexico. All those interested in sewing or quilting are invited to attend.
