The future is looking bright for the soccer team at Missouri Military Academy next season with the installation of new field lights at Colonels Field on the military school campus.
The project is being supported by MMA parents David and Jessica Reid of Muskegon, Michigan, whose son, Drake, is a sophomore at MMA.
“This transformational enhancement to the soccer program and MMA campus will expand opportunities for athletic and soccer skills development, increase the number of full home games for our junior varsity team, and allow us to host more games and tournaments on campus,” MMA President Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret) said. “It also provides greater flexibility for use of Colonels Field, which serves as both our soccer field and Academy parade field. We are grateful to the Reid family for this generous and timely gift as Maroon & Gold presidential sponsors, leading the way as we prepare for our major fundraising event on April 18.”
The new lights will improve playing conditions for the athletes, enabling more flexibility in scheduling and opportunities to host more home games, tournaments and district competition on campus, enhancing the athletic experience for cadets.
“It’s evident that what MMA is doing is working for him, and this place is undeniably special to him,” David Reid said about the Academy. “MMA holds significant meaning for Drake, and in turn, it means a great deal to us, his parents. We are immensely proud of the young man he is becoming.”
MMA soccer is developing into one of the Academy’s strongest athletic programs. The 2024 team wrapped up a stellar season as a runner-up in the state championships, with many players garnering all-state, region and district honors.
Work on installing the lights will begin as soon as possible, with the goal of completing them before the fall soccer season begins.
“Continued investment in MMA provides the school's leadership and staff with the essential tools needed to foster the ongoing growth and education of both current and future cadets,” Reid said. “It’s clear that when communities invest in their youth, the result is remarkable success.”
