The Audrain County Health Department on Saturday confirmed a second active case of COVID-19. The first case, announced April 18, has recovered and contacts that patient had are no longer being monitored.
The second case is considered community transmission. This means that the patient does not know how they were exposed COVID-19. Other classifications are travel-related, where a patient has traveled in the past 14 days and then has virus-related symptoms, or close contact or contact with someone who tested positive. The first case also was determined as community transmission.
Regardless, the health department and Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services now is conducting contract tracing interviews with people the patient had contacted within the past two weeks. The patient has self-quarantined at their home.
More information about COVID-19 is available through the DHSS website, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, and through the state 24-hour hotline at 1-877-435-8411.
SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital — Audrain is operating a drive-thru test site. It is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and requires physician orders to receive a test. SSM Health also has an online evaluation tool for those that believe they may have COVID-19.
