Natalie Shryock started off the South Callaway Tournament hot on Monday night.
Shryock nailed a North Callaway school-record 10 straight shots to start the game against host South Callaway, including a school-record nine 3-pointers, to finish with 31 points and lead the Ladybirds to a 65-53 first-round victory. It was easily the senior's best game of the season and was enough to have head coach Andrew Klein say she is "one of the best girls to play in North Callaway's history" after the game.
Sophie Olsson followed Shryock with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Livia Hartley had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
North Callaway (5-5) led 36-16 at halftime to give the team enough of a cushion before McKenzie Laughlin's first eight shots made in the second half. Laughlin scored 16 of her 22 points for South Callaway (4-5) in the second half.
Monday's win was the sixth straight for North Callaway against its Callaway County rival.
The Ladybirds play Russellville (5-5) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the next round.
