Mexico’s lineup from boys tennis districts a year ago looks similar.
That’s because Brixton Goerne, Skylar Shaw, Landon Whitworth, Brandon Rodriguez, Jonathan St. Martin and Johnny Hernandez all have varsity and district experience from last year for the Bulldogs.
Boston Davolt, who returns as an assistant to head coach Tony Senor, qualified for the state tournament last season, and Goerne earned all-district honors in singles. The Bulldogs defeated STEAM Academy in districts last year.
“Our strengths include a strong upper class that has experience,” Senor said. “Also, the younger players are starting to pick up the game better.”
Senor said there are 17 total players – five freshman, five sophomores, two juniors and five seniors – for “a great mix of new players and experienced players.”
Senor said Mexico wants to win the conference and be better at doubles. Pertaining to that last point, he said the Bulldogs want to qualify at least a singles player and doubles pair for state.
