Mexico track and field had a big group that made it past districts last season but shrank after sectionals.
Much of that group is back this season along with a wide assortment of kids in various events. Mexico had eight events advance to sectionals, three in which senior Charlie Fisher ran, and senior Jacob Quinlan, who qualified for state in the boys triple jump.
Head coach Bucky Green said Mexico is glad to have Fisher and Damarion Williams for boys sprints, Quinlan for the boys triple jump, Maggie Ramsey for girls distance running, and Alexandra Terry for girls pole vault after each were all-district. Mexico also has boys javelin school-record holder Tyler Stone, Dylan Akeman in boys discus, Jiles Williams in boys triple jump, Luke Fowler in boys pole vault, and Emma Seibert in girls hurdles.
“With much success in sprint relays, javelin, horizontal jumps, distance and sprints, we hope to build on these areas,” Green said.
Green said Mexico has 66 athletes with a large group of freshmen and a larger number of girls. He has an “incredible” coaching staff with Austin Miller, Justin Hagedorn, Lucas Breneman, Kevin Krietemeyer and newcomer Travis Simmons.
“Our goal is to coach these kids to be the best they can be in their respective events,” Green said.
